Call for the Granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Cuban Henry Reeve Medical brigades

The editorial staff of the magazine Cuba Política has decided to join the different initiatives promoted by the friendship groups with Cuba in order to request the Norwegian Committee of the Nobel Peace Prize to present the award to the internationalist Cuban medical brigades «Henry Reeve «.

Whilst the world faces a pandemic that threatens millions of lives, Cuba solidarity  sends its army of white robes to over 22 countries all around the globe to help face the Covid 19 pandemic.  Over 1000 doctors and health staff from Cuba have left the island to fight the terrible coronavirus in many countries of the world in cooperation with local medical teams.

Cuba is a country with limited economic resources due to the economic and financial blockade that the US it already imposes it for 60 years. However, this small island is great for its solidarity. During the last 50 years, more than 400,000 Cuban collaborators have carried out missions in 164 countries. According to the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, 35 613 health professionals from 138 countries have been trained free of charge in the country. In more than 50 years, Cuban medical brigades have carried out 14 million surgical interventions, four million deliveries, and there are 8.3 million lives saved.

Currently, Cuba has some 30,000 doctors, nurses and paramedical personnel deployed in 67 countries. Other great feats of the Henry Reeve Brigade have been the confrontation with Ebola in Africa and many other health and natural catastrophes in Asia and Latin America.

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cubans have once again offered their solidarity to the world. They, more than anyone, deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
